More Details About Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar Coming To Downtown Disney

Hangar Bar

The new aviation-themed lounge, Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar, is scheduled to open this fall in Downtown Disney. A few more exciting details were just released courtesy of Disney:

With an aviation theme (Jock was Indy’s frequent pilot in the “Indiana Jones” films) and a primo waterfront location, Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar will feature food and drinks inspired by Jock’s globe-trotting to all continents – everything from a Hovito Mojito to Dr. Elsa’s She-Deviled Eggs.

Guests will get a kick out of the salvaged equipment, spare airplane parts and mementos from Jock’s travels that decorate the 150-seat lounge located between Paradiso 37 and The BOATHOUSE restaurant. Outdoors, his old steamboat (now in dry dock) is a fun place for watching the sunset.

Hangar BarAt the core of Walt Disney Imagineering is great storytelling: as the tale goes, Jock made a home at this waterfront property in the 1940s after discovering this charming little town while flying Indiana Jones over the Sunshine State in search of the elusive Fountain of Youth in 1938. As a member of the Society of Explorers and Adventurers, Jock often welcomed his globetrotting friends to his hangar for a drink and fun times.

Now Jock and Indy may be gone, but his legendary adventures live on at this exotic watering hole. And that’s what gives the place its charm – and a creative menu of adventurous tastes.

Along with beer and wine, start with clever cocktails such as Reggie’s Revenge and The Fountain of Youth featuring Florida vodkas; Hovito Mojito and The Bitter Barkeep with Peruvian Pisco; Anything Goes with an Asian spirit that packs a little heat; The Aviator’s Flight and The Scottish Professor, and that Cool-headed Monkey with African spirits.

Each of the small plates has a delicious twist, and they’re great for sharing. Dr. Elsa’s She-Deviled Eggs are brined in beet juice with lump crab filling. “Good” Dates feature goat cheese-stuffed dates with Marcona almonds and pickled veggies. Snack of Ra gives a taste of Africa with salads and dips served with injera (bread) and naan crisps. Tanis Tacos are filled with falafel, shredded lettuce and cucumber-tomato salad. The pretzels come with house-made mustard and beer-cheese fondue.

A little more substantial are the Rolling Boulder Sliders with three spice meatballs on mini-buns with yogurt sauce. Or Brody Brats, grilled bratwurst with mustard and pickled cabbage. Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar’s take on chicken wings features spicy Asian wings (called “Lao Che’s Revenge”). And “Squid! Why’d It Have to Be Squid” is fried calamari flatbread with spicy harissa.

Look for Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar to open in Downtown Disney this fall!

2015 Epcot International Food And Wine Festival Exclusive Merchandise

With the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival beginning next month on September 25, I thought it would be fun to take a look at some of the new merchandise that will be offered during the event. According to Disney, these items will be for sale exclusively at Food & Wine and will not be available online. There will be merchandise locations set up in World Showcase carrying a few items, but for the best selection head to the Festival Center located in the former Wonders of Life Pavilion between Universe of Energy and Mission: SPACE.

This year, there are three different themes for the merchandise. The first is the World Showcase Logo theme that includes icons from each of the 11 country pavilions. Next up, there is a Disney Character theme that will feature Figment and Mickey Mouse dressed as chefs. The final theme is the returning favorite – Brews Around The World.

So let’s take a peek at some of merchandise…

Food and Wine Merchandise

The drinkware and limited edition pins should be big hits as usual!

Food and Wine MerchandiseOf course, it wouldn’t be a Disney event without some new Dooney & Bourke handbags, and this year there are three of them! Prices are always subject to change, but are currently $268 for the Shopper Tote, $248 for the Zip Zip Satchel, and $198 for the Letter Carrier.

Food and Wine MerchandiseLove what you’re tasting at Food & Wine? Be sure to purchase the recipe cards with collector pins so you can make the dishes at home to continue your magic!

Food and Wine MerchandiseLots of great shirts will be on sale to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival. The Taste and Brews shirts will be offered in sizes small to 2-XL and the Character Chef shirts will be offered in sizes small to 4-XL.

Food and Wine MerchandiseYep, that’s a bottle opener on the Brews Around the World baseball cap!

Movin’ With Mickey Update 2

Movin With Mickey

Last month was the official start of the Movin’ with Mickey Movement. In case you missed it, let me refresh your memory. My friend Katie over at The Most Delightful Place recently kicked off her new feature Movin’ with Mickey! She’s going to be sharing lots of great health tips and success stories twice a month as she works towards her personal goal of walking the amount of steps equal to the distance from her home in Iowa to Walt Disney World. Of course, she’ll be updating us on her progress along the way. I loved her idea and decided I would join in to improve my health before my fall Disney World vacation.

The Plan

Most Delightful PlaceI have many things to work on to improve my health. As Katie walks her way to Disney World, I’m going to make healthy changes too, and I’ll keep you posted on how I’m doing.

Every two weeks, Katie will be doing a post over on The Most Delightful Place giving us an update and sharing helpful information. I’ll post a link here at Disney World Enthusiast each time she publishes a Movin’ with Mickey article so we can keep up with her progress.

In between posts, you can catch up with Katie and I over on Facebook at Disney World Enthusiast or The Most Delightful Place, where you can let us know how you’re doing on journey as well.

Update 2

So when my original plan of making one change a week for better health didn’t really work for me, I tried making one change a day to get things rolling more quickly. How did I do? Well….let’s take a look at each of my changes individually.

Get at least 6 hours of sleep each night.

Now this change is one where I have really made some progress. I have gotten at least six hours of sleep each night in the last two weeks. I do notice a difference in how tired I feel throughout the day with just a couple of hours of extra sleep each night. Next up, I would like to get on more of a schedule with regular waking and bed times. This will be much easier when my kiddos head back to school. I won’t have any choice about when I get up. No more staying up late or sleeping in for any of us!

Eat three meals each day.

So this change is definitely still a work in progress. I am doing better; eating at least twice a day and sometimes three times. I still have a hard time getting breakfast in, but I hope it will get easier once my boys are back in school and we are all in more of a routine.

Eat at least one fruit/vegetable at every meal.

I’ve made no progress here. I am not a fan of fruit or veggies so this one is going to be tough.

Take all of my vitamins, thyroid, and kidney stone medications each day.

I’m making small improvements with this change. I’m not taking everything every day, but at least a few days a week I’m getting them all in.

Drink eight glasses of water each day.

Another change that hasn’t seen any significant improvement yet. At least I have plenty to work on!

Reduce soda intake to once a week or less.

This one is proving harder than I thought. I dropped soda cold turkey and ended up with a horrible migraine that lasted for three days until I started taking Tylenol and drinking root beer again. I’m going to need to approach this change differently by weaning myself off the soda if I don’t want to deal with the headaches. First baby step – down to no more than one soda a day for the next couple of weeks.

Exercise at least 30 minutes per day at least 5 days per week.

With the migraine, getting my guys ready to head back to school, and finishing up my next book, there hasn’t really been any time for exercise. Hoping that will change once I submit my book’s final draft on August 14!

As you can see, I still have a lot of work to do. But this about the journey not the destination, right?
