New Years 3General Information

On New Year’s Eve at Magic Kingdom, guests are treated to all of the holiday entertainment that is normally exclusive to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party plus a special edition of the Fantasy in the Sky Fireworks show. Party favors such as hats and horns are handed out to visitors in the evening to enjoy as they celebrate. Remember that alcohol is limited in Magic Kingdom; guests are not permitted to bring in alcohol and it is only served at five table service restaurants throughout the park.

Quick Tips
  • The Magic Kingdom New Year’s Eve celebration is generally the most family oriented of all the parks.
  • It is also the most crowded by far, and it is not uncommon to experience phased closures throughout the day when guests are not permitted entry into the park.
  • If you plan to spend the holiday in Magic Kingdom, get a good night’s sleep on December 30, arrive early on December 31, and plan to stay for the duration.
  • If at all possible, leave the driving to Disney and hop on a resort bus. With one of the largest parking lots in the world, the mass exodus that happens when the park closes is complete chaos.
  • If you’re interested in experiencing attractions during your visit, focus on less popular large capacity ones like Enchanted Tiki Room, Country Bear Jamboree, The Hall of Presidents, Carousel of Progress and Tomorrowland Transit Authority.
  • When dining at counter service restaurants, try to eat at off hours. For lunch avoid 11:00am-2:00pm and for dinner avoid 4:00pm-7:00pm.

Epcot

Hours

Future World 8:00am-1:00am, World Showcase 9:00am-1:00am

On The Schedule
  • 6:00pm Illuminations: Reflections of Earth Holiday Edition Fireworks
  • 11:40pm New Year’s Countdown Fireworks
Disney New YearGeneral Information

Of all of the Walt Disney World parks, Epcot is my favorite to celebrate New Year’s Eve. The festivities are geared a bit more to the over 21 crowd with World Showcase filled with temporary bars and dance parties at several of the country pavilions. Just like at Magic Kingdom, guests will be treated to party favors at no additional charge, but as always there will be no shortage of light up merchandise available for purchase.

Quick Tips
  • Epcot’s New Year’s Eve celebration while still family friendly is definitely geared to an older crowd.
  • Due to the size of the park, the crowds are still massive, but feel not as claustrophobic as Magic Kingdom.
  • Anticipate heavy crowds getting into the park, so it is always a good idea to arrive early and be prepared to wait. However, the odds of Epcot experiencing phased closures is much lower than at Magic Kingdom.
  • If you’re staying at a resort hotel, take advantage of the free transportation and avoid driving to the park.
  • If you’re hoping to enjoy some attractions during your visit without waiting in line for hours, World Showcase films such as Reflections of China, Impressions de France, and O Canada are great options.
  • When dining at counter service restaurants and food booths, try to eat at off hours. For lunch avoid 11:00am-2:00pm and for dinner avoid 4:00pm-7:00pm.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Hours

8:00am-12:00am

On The Schedule
  • 8:00pm Fantasmic! Nighttime Spectacular
  • 9:00pm Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! Fireworks Show
  • 9:30pm Fantasmic! Nighttime Spectacular
  • 12:00am Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular Fireworks Show
star-wars-2016-bGeneral Information

Of all of the parks with New Year’s celebrations, Hollywood Studios historically has the lowest crowd levels. Like Epcot, this party is geared a little more for the over 21 crowd with temporary bars and a huge dance party leading up to the massive fireworks display. Similar to Magic Kingdom and Epcot, party favors are distributed to all guests free of charge.

Quick Tips
  • Due to the extensive construction and closures now taking place at Hollywood Studios, the crowds will likely feel larger than they actually are.
  • Like Epcot, phased closures are rare at Hollywood Studios, but lines will be long through security and the park entrance so be sure to plan accordingly.
  • If you’re staying at a resort hotel, take advantage of the free bus transportation and avoid driving to the park.
  • When dining at counter service restaurants, try to eat at off hours. For lunch avoid 11:00am-2:00pm and for dinner avoid 4:00pm-7:00pm.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Hours

8:00am-8:30pm, Extra Magic Hours 7:00am-8:00am for Disney Resort Hotel Guests

DAK at Night 1General Information

Animal Kingdom does not have an official New Year’s Eve celebration or fireworks display, however guests can enjoy additional live entertainment performances throughout the day and the lightest crowds of any of the parks.

Disney Springs

Hours

10:00am-12:00am

Disney Springs aGeneral Information

Similar to Animal Kingdom, Disney Springs doesn’t have an official celebration or fireworks display, however there will be no shortage of live entertainment, food and drinks available for guests looking for a fun night out!

Disney Resort Hotels

Boardwalk 1General Information

If the thought of dealing with the crowds is too much for you and you happen to be staying on-property at Walt Disney World, be sure to check with guest services at your hotel. Most resorts will be offering some type of party on site. The deluxe resorts often offer fairly elaborate celebrations for their guests. In the past, the Grand Floridian has featured a big band orchestra, party favors, and balloon drop in the main lobby while the Boardwalk has had a full carnival of festivities going on along the water to ring in the new year!

Happy New Year!

Disney Parks “Magical Christmas Celebration” Airs Christmas Day

If you can’t be in a Disney Park this year for the holidays, be sure to tune in for the Disney Parks Magical Christmas Celebration on Christmas Day. It promises to be the most memorable special yet! Here’s the scoop courtesy of Disney:

Following a festive kick-off to the holidays that began Thanksgiving Day with two new broadcast specials, Disney Parks will close out 2016 with its most cherished seasonal tradition of all – the annual Christmas Day spectacular. “The Disney Parks’ Magical Christmas Celebration” airs Sunday, December 25, 2016, on the ABC Television Network (10am–12pm ET; airtimes vary; check local listings) and on the ABC and the Disney Channel apps.

holiday-specials-2016-1Ushering in its 33rd year are the dynamic brother-sister duo from “Dancing with the Stars,” Julianne Hough and Derek Hough, who will present the two-hour ABC special from the Walt Disney World Resort. The season’s most eagerly awaited celebration culminates with the fan-favorite Christmas parade delivered by Disneyland correspondent, Good Morning America’s Jesse Palmer from the action-packed parade lines alongside other exciting celebrity guests.

Beyond offering an all-star performance lineup featuring the biggest names in music and entertainment, the joyous program will provide viewers with a necessary holiday reminder: the importance of family togetherness. Following the inspirational stories of the families introduced in the Thanksgiving Day special, the telecast will feature heartwarming moments between loved ones, reinforcing the notion that Christmas is all about friends and family coming together.

Taking viewers on a magical ride down Main Street U.S.A. and beyond, the Christmas Day festivities will be bigger and brighter than ever before. A complete list of musical performances is included below.

The popular World of Color nighttime water spectacular is also transformed into “World of Color – Season of Light” with holiday music and treasured Disney animation. Among a sleigh-full of holiday events and activities at Disneyland Park is “A Christmas Fantasy,” a daily parade of floats, music, tin soldiers and holiday cheer. In addition, Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle creates magical snowfall moments along Main Street, U.S.A.

The 33rd annual Christmas celebration airs nationwide on December 25 at 10am EST and 9am CST, MST and PST on the ABC Television Network. The show will also be available on the ABC and the Disney Channel apps.

Starbright Holidays – An Intel Collaboration At Disney Springs

starbright-holidays-1

It’s that time again when Disney goes all out getting into the holiday spirit. This year is no exception and Disney has given us another new and exciting experience to see during the holiday season. Here’s everything you need to know about “Starbright Holidays – An Intel Collaboration” at Disney Springs courtesy of Disney:

This holiday season, guests at Disney Springs – the shopping, dining and entertainment district of Walt Disney World Resort – will get a chance to see Disney and Intel exploring remarkable new technology as hundreds of lighted show drones take to the nighttime sky in “Starbright Holidays – An Intel Collaboration.” The twice-nightly experience begins November 20 on the West Side of Disney Springs.

The first-of-its-kind light show featuring 300 Intel® Shooting StarTM show drones invites guests to gaze skyward and make a special wish this holiday season. The synchronized choreography of the new Intel Shooting Star drones is set to a specially orchestrated arrangement of classic holiday music. In the nostalgic and stirring medley, Disney Springs guests can listen for a few bars of classic Disney melodies.

starbright-holidays-2“We are thrilled to share an experience as innovative and unique as Disney Springs,” said Keith Bradford, Vice President of Disney Springs. “‘Starbright Holidays’ is a wonderful surprise and delight moment for guests as they enjoy an evening of world-class shopping, dining and entertainment here at Disney Springs.”

Added Jon Snoddy, Studio Executive with Walt Disney Imagineering R&D, “At Disney, we are always looking for innovative ways to tell stories and create unexpected experiences. We’re excited to invite guests to watch as we explore the possibilities of this remarkable new technology.”

“Starbright Holidays – An Intel Collaboration” marks the first time in the United States 300 show drones have flown at one time. At 280g, the Intel Shooting Star drone weighs less than a volleyball, and features built-in LED lights that can create more than four billion color combinations.

“We are excited to work with Walt Disney Imagineering to bring a fresh and innovative approach to its world-renowned light shows,” said Senior Vice President and General Manager of Intel’s New Technology Group, Josh Walden. “Together, we worked to tackle the new frontier of entertainment, picturing the sky as our canvas, and flying lights as ink.”

“Starbright Holidays – An Intel Collaboration”  runs November 20 – January 8 at 7:00pm and 8:30pm, and joins other holiday enhancements at Disney Springs, including a brand-new Christmas Tree Trail, special seasonal entertainment, meet and greets with Santa, and festive decor throughout all four neighborhoods – Town Center, The Landing, West Side and Marketplace.
